Cool Cat from Thunder Bay

This caricature is one of Thunder Bay's more recognizable celebrities that made it big outside of the city. Well actually outside of Canada too.

Robin Williams July 21, 1951 - August 11, 2014

I saw the first post of Mr. William's passing on Facebook after work yesterday evening. I really was hoping it was going to be another one of those false posts people put up, but it wasn't. I was quite young when I first saw him on Happy Days and I've watched him through the years from his television sitcoms and through his movies. He will be missed.

Texas Sheriff

Keeping with the old west theme, here is a sketch of Texas Sheriff posing with his wears.

Female Swashbuckler

It's been awhile since I've posted a sketch. The reference for this character came from a photo on Pinterest. If I haven't mentioned this before, I will now by saying Pinterest is a great resource for artists.

Girl in Distress

A quick sketch from yesterday morning to get the hand moving. The drawing was referenced from one of Bruce Timm's work

Sketching Rembrandt

My favourite old master artist is Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn. Considered one of the greatest painters of all time especially for his portraits. He also is renewed for his etchings and that is of particular interest for me. This study is from one of his etchings entitled "

Man Drawing from a Cast".

Clown Induced Insomnia

For some kids, the most frighting thing to imagine before bedtime is...

April's Fool

I've been working on my inking techniques and thought I would do one in recognition of this day. I call this piece April's Fool. If you happen to be one of the unlikely individuals who has had to endure this winter's wrath, you likely wouldn't mind kicking the head's off a few snow men by this point in time. I was originally going to have the jester kicking Mother Nature, but thought it safe to keep it gender neutral.

Ink Practice

I decided to pull out my pen brush and do a quick study using one of Skottie Young's pieces as reference.

Freaky Fred and Courage the Cowardly Dog

I came across one of Cartoon Networks older shows from over ten years ago of Courage the Cowardly Dog. One of the episodes has Muriel's nephew Freaky Fred come to pay a visit. Fred has a strange fetish where he enjoys the act of clipping the hair off of everything from his pet Guinea Pig to his girlfriend using a pair of red shears. This time he has his eyes set on Courage. Here is the rough sketch it did in hopes of completing a colour version using markers.

Iron Worker Crest Design

I've been asked from a good friend of mine who is in trade school working towards becoming a Journeyman Iron Worker to design a crest for hoodies the class are looking to get made up. This is the first rough layout. Once the design has the approval from the class, I'll bring it into Adobe Illustrator for the final artwork.

Steampunk Girl

Pintrest is a great place to find reference material and for exploring neat and new things. I've recently discovered Steampunk especially as it relates to the artist styles of fashion clothing. This sketch is on the conservative side of what some people have designed and worn.

Alex B

I was on DeviantART the other night. I use it as a resource tool for finding nude photos of the human form for sketching and drawing purposes. This particular night I was looking for pictures of older more mature women, and came across a Deviant by the name of AlexandraB24. This classy, and sophisticated woman, who, even though in her 50's, was ever more beautiful by the confidence she seemed to exude with regards to her own body.

My apologies to the divine Alex B as I do not do her justice by caricaturing her.

Troll Elder

A quick sketch done this morning that I liked and figured I would post right away rather then waiting until my usual Sunday post, which really hasn't been regular of late. Anyway, I was looking at some creepy looking characters and figured why not try one myself. This was done entirely off to top of my head. I wasn't sure what I was going for at the time I sketched it, but upon completion, it looked somewhat like a troll character. At least to me.

3 Dames

So when I find myself looking for something to sketch and cannot come up with much, I always resort to drawing the ladies. That's it.
